The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood – Book Review

The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood: Book Review – The Love Hypothesis, one of the bestselling books written by Ali Hazelwood, is based on the story of a Ph.D. Student Olive Smith and a professor at her university, Adam Carlsen. If you are up for a cute and romantic love story, this one is the best to make you feel refreshed and happy. It is hard not to simp over Adam. As it has already been in talks, Adam is yet another name of perfection. After finishing the book, I can surely say the same. It is not every book that leaves an impact on our heart, making our fiction-loving heart happy and content, but one chapter in this book and you can’t stop yourself from finishing it in one go (sounds quite difficult but it’s just the magic of the story and Olive-Adam’s pair, you cannot stop yourself.)

If we talk about their first meeting, it is kept under the shadow of an “unrecognizable meeting” which Olive realises much later in the book that it was Adam she met years ago. Later we see that to help her friend, Anh, get into a relationship with her ex-boyfriend Jeremy (whom might I mention Anh likes a lot), she suddenly kisses her professor, Adam. Shortly after this, Adam proposes they should fake-date so that Anh and Jeremy can have time to get together. Reluctantly, Olive agrees, unknown of Adam’s thoughts and motives.

The love hypothesis

The story moves ahead at a fine speed, showcasing the beautiful moments spent by the two, (to which half of the credit goes to Anh XD), they get to know each other, know about the hardships they had to go through, and so much more. But gradually they fall for each other, but till the end, Olive is unaware of the fact that Adam liked her at first sight when they met years ago in the washroom of Adam’s lab. Holden, the best friend of Adam and yet another professor of Olive, revealed it after their confessions.

Tom Benton is another significant character in the book. The antagonist lived under the cover of “Adam’s Best Friend” who is likely disliked by Holden for particular reasons. Up until chapter fourteenth, the character has been one of the “best scientist and friend ever” but later his reality is exposed. It comes to light how he has harassed Adam during their college time, how he abused Olive in exchange for sexual favour or her research project on pancreatic cancer.

When Adam gets to know about the whole scenario, there comes this one dialogue that makes me baffling and screaming, “If you say another word to the woman I love, if you look at her, if you even think about her — I’m going to fckuing kill you.” And damn it, that was the moment I went baffling, screaming and shouting in happiness. This is the first time he actually word it out that he freaking loves her.

By any chance, if you are up for this beautiful story, let yourself indulge in the story and soak in its beauty with your whole heart. I can bet you cannot “not love” the couple and have hope for such deep love in your real life. You can easily buy the book, The Love Hypothesis, from Amazon by clicking here.
