That’ll Be Our Song by Snehil Niharika – Book Review

That’ll Be Our Song by Snehil Niharika – Book Review – Falling for a person and falling for the idea of a person are two different things, and this book is exactly about the same. ‘That’ll Be Our Song’, a book by Snehil Niharika, is about a girl who is insanely in love with her internet crush. She is, at moments, delusional about finding love, imagining her life with Siddhartha, and finding different stories whenever she finds herself in difficult situations.

The story revolves around Arya, who is totally, head to toe, sanely, and insanely in love with Siddhartha, the guy who gives zero sh*t about her and the zillions of texts and emails she sent them. While everybody around her always warned her about not hurting herself, she had made Siddhartha her coping. Whenever life went hard on her, she just turned to Siddhartha, and all she got in return was ignorance, being ghosted, and the feeling of embarrassment.

To be honest, what I loved the most about the book was how she never feared being herself AT ANY POINT OF LIFE. Whether with Siddhartha, Swati, Rupalika, Trisha, or Rehaan, she is always her real… transparent self. And to talk about her delusions about finding love, I personally don’t think there is anything wrong in falling for someone; what’s wrong is that she was finding it in the wrong places.

At one point, I was like, “f*ck everything and just bomb his brain. He doesn’t deserve even a bit of your love and tears and smile and happiness and sadness. You deserve a lot better.” And if you have read the book, you will agree with me as well about what her friends say about finding love, that she is one of those who take love too seriously, someone who makes the person the centre of her life and does literally everything to keep that person happy. And it isn’t easy to find someone like that in your life. Siddharth truly was an idiot to not see that love.

Love doesn’t have to be unconditional always; it must be realistic as well. Unconditional love brings peace to your heart, but when you love a person realistically, along with the peace, it brings pain, suffering, and problems because it calls for expectations, demands, needs, and so much more. This book will always be a personal treasure to me, not just because of the plot or the story it covers but because it was like an emotional ride.

After It Ends With Us, I didn’t come across any story that could actually make me cry, but the scenes where she just overdoes things for him and instead of acknowledging them like a cute lil boy, HE DARED TO PLAY COOL AND GHOST HER? It would be one of those rare books where I just want to break the guy’s head for being a jerk.

If you haven’t read the book, That’ll Be Our Song yet, I highly recommend you read it. Maybe to know what happens if you choose to ignore yourself and choose the wrong coping methods. More than a love story, it was more of a fictional self-help as it literally made me realise so many things about life and the choices we make.

And while this was an utterly heartfelt book, how can I forget her matchmaking skills? Truly it was amazing how she just had a random thought that the two would look good, and she went on the matchmaking spree. Heavens!! Arya is just love.
