A Heart of Onyx Flame: A YA Shifter Academy Romance by Lina Ravenhill – A Heart of Onyx Flame is a young adult fantasy book that narrates the story of a fighter girl – Bohdana who lands in an unknown world and faces unique but interesting challenges. It’s interesting how amidst people with special powers, a mere human like her held so much power in every situation. That part is literally incredible.
It happens very rarely that I feel at the loss of words and after reading this book, I feel the same. It’s like I have lost the capability of writing reviews as I cannot just sum up the book in some words to let you know how much I loved it. And this is one of those rare books where more than the guy my heart fell for the girl! Being in the unknown world, she still knew very well how to stand up for herself, know her worth and do what she felt was the right thing without thinking how it may affect her.
To talk about the story, Bohdana gets herself into an unknown world of magic, superpowers and whatnot and finds it hard to get used to that life but it gets very much interesting when she is asked to protect Cian. Like just imagine, a normal human being who is just good at fighting is asked to protect a guy with special powers. ToT
That’s kinda laughable to hear but while reading, it makes complete sense!
To give you an overview of the story, Bohdana steps into a mysterious shifters academy, where she finds a world that she didn’t even know existed. She meets Cian or we can say, she’s made to meet him and the story continues. One of the most interesting factors about the book is, that there is not a single moment for ”the proposal” but with them, you won’t even feel the need for a proposal with words. It’s so visible in the way they care for each other, the way they do things just to keep the other one protected.
Oh and it’s not just about these two, Polly is one such sweetheart in the story. She’s the first student Alma, as in Ms. Read asks to stay with Bohdana and ever since their friendship had no going back. Instead of being a student of the college and abiding by the rules, she started to become more of Bohdana’s friend for letting her do whatever and sometimes even supporting her.
All in all, it’s one of the most interesting books I’ve come across and might be one of the books I’ll keep recommending to the readers around me. Tropes for this book would be, fantasy, love at first sight, strong FMC, and lots of mystery. Along with lots of action-packed sequences and a compelling plot, there is also a lot of confusion, moral failures, and longing. The plot moves along at a great pace, and the characters are well-developed. You must give this book a read if you enjoy romance, mystery, and shifters. If I could, I would definitely rate this book six stars!
