The Sugarlake Tragedy by Sharad Kumar: Book Review – The Sugarlake Tragedy is a sci-fi, crime thrill book written by Sharad Kumar, an amazing writer and the founder of TLB City. The book, as the name suggests, revolves around the incidents happening around a lake named Sugarlake, located between Calibgon and Lolligon. The book is written in such an incredible way, that what happens next in the book is decided by the main character, meaning you! Yes, you heard it right, YOU are the main character of the book.
Aaaaaaaaaaa, let me first scream to tell you how much I loved the book. It’s legit so good and perfectly crafted. The Sugarlake Tragedy is the first sci-fi book that I read (I’ve heard audiobooks before that this is the first that I read) and damn I didn’t know I’d love it so much. I waited months to prep myself for the book but I guess you are never ready until you actually start it. So, thinking the same, I started it one day and well it’s definitely a trophy to my collection.
So coming back to me, I mean the main character of the book. Yes, I mean I don’t know if I should say you or me, lol. The main character of the book is whoever is reading the book. As the author said, “It’s different for a 20-year-old while it’s completely different for a 40-year-old. It’s totally different for a male as it is for a female.” You won’t realise how just by my descriptions, you’ll have to give it a read yourself.
You (or me whatever) reach in Calibgon and meet a guy named Henry Eagle Beagle and face some things that you are not supposed to learn about. Then begins the loop of twists and turns in the story, you have the choice to be the hero, to save people, to save the planet and to defeat the mythological character. Damn, it’s such a great read! Half the book I kept blaming Henry for whatever was happening to the main character XD. Each character in the book is so well defined, their traits, looks and deeds, you can actually feel like you’re watching a movie.
To give you an overview of the story, the pollution in Calibgon and Lolligon has increased so much that it has led to certain accidents around the lake. As we all know pollution is such a big problem in today’s world and the author has used the same as the major cause of the troubles in the book. In a way showing how nature can backfire on you if you mess with it. And honestly, that’s such a great learning from the story – how we’re deteriorating our planet and how we should be taking care of our environment as much we care for our individual lives.
So yeah, back to the plot, people were dying and to rectify the issue, the antagonist does things like cleaning the world. It’s such an extreme step and guess what? You’re the hero who saves the mighty world. ToT That’s such a fascinating thing to be a hero in someone’s book. There are so many “wow, okay, what next?” moments in the book, you’ll end up marking the whole book once you get started with it.
Also, let me show you some of my favourite lines as well, God, I love these lines.
A situation might seem hopeless at first, but there is always a way out. You just need a fresh perspective.
“Loyalty is fluid. Every person is capable of commitment. What separates people is what it takes to buy that commitment.” Isn’t that a harsh truth? It’s so hard to trust people yet we risk our lives trusting them.
“Money is power in this country, my friend. There is nothing money cannot fix.” Ahh, another truth of our lives lol.
“The Universe creates the best scenario for you.” TRUER WORDS EVER SPOKEN.
WARNING BEFORE YOU START THE BOOK: While reading the book, you’ll find yourself in a position to choose what step to take next. Please make your decisions wisely and stick to the choices you make. If you try to switch the choices in between, you will not enjoy the plot and might end up finding the story boring. Please read it only when you are ready to devote your time to the book.
