Rant: Gunahon Ka Devta and Ret Ki Machhli

Rant: Gunahon Ka Devta and Ret Ki Machhli – In the span of the last 5 days, I had the time to finish 2 audiobooks in a row, Gunahon Ka Devta and Ret Ki Machhli. And now that I am done with the books, I have this terrible feeling in my heart. It’s like, along with Sudha, something broke inside of me, but with Kuntal, I felt like my entire self was shattered. The treatment the women got in both books was outrageous. And it’s not just the guys who made these characters feel so, but it was the women themselves too, who kept themselves chained to such men.

And while we talk about Sudha, I can never forget Binti. It was utterly incredible how both the girls loved the man so selflessly that they were ready to forget their own identity, just to be accepted by a guy like Chandar, who is supposed to be an ideal man but is nothing more than a misogynist soul. I mean, I agree it was a story from more than half a decade ago, but if the girls were intelligent and gutsy enough to take a stand for their love (Kuntal), they sure should not have been so bound by a marriage of not even convenience just for the sake of “ab me kaha jaungi”.

To be honest, I have so much to say, so much rage in me for Shobhan, but words are not letting me frame what I want to say. I feel so out of words and emotions that I am starting to feel like Binti, who doesn’t have an option but accept what’s really happening around. And wait, how can I not mention Meenal? Like that’s such an entirely iconic character, that I feel utter outrage on the mere mention of her name. She TIED RAKHI LAST YEAR, CALLED HIM BROTHER AND ENDED UP HAVING AN AFFAIR WITH HIM, ALL WITHIN A SINGLE YEAR?

I am somehow surprised that I have seen so many people mentioning Gunaho ka Devta on bookstagram and never a single mention of Ret ki Machhli. And if they were just stories, I still would have somehow calmed myself, but my heart breaks even more to know that this was based on their real life? While Dharamvir Bharti wrote what he wanted to show, Kanta Bharti wrote what she felt in that marriage. I just… I really don’t know what to say and whom to say.

While listening to the audiobook, I checked some comments, and they just made me even more speechless. People listening to the book were either blaming Kuntal for staying in that marriage and tolerating all that BS, or were actually saying, and I’ll quote, “this book is a character assassination of Chandar.” LIKE DO THEY NOT GET WHAT’S HAPPENING? CHANDAR PLAYED WITH SO MANY GIRLS, SHOBHAN CHEATED ON HIS WIFE, WHOM HE CLAIMED TO LOVE SO MUCH, AND IT’S STILL THE WOMAN’S FAULT????? WTF???

It’s like I want to recommend this book to you, but at the same time, I’d like you to skip the book to maintain your sanity. But one thing is for sure, if you are going to go with gunaho ka devta, do follow it up with ret ki machhli. Because you wouldn’t want to miss what SHE had to say while he kept living his life while playing around.

  1. First of all, i would like to point out why not see Art separately with the Artist?! Why every story, poetry, painting need to be concluded Autobiographical?!
And secondly, i am not defending anyone but isn’t in both stories the relationship is somewhat toxic?! Like people do find it difficult to move away from the abuser in a relationship so blaming someone for not standing up against the abuser is just bs..but isn’t multiple people falling to the abuser even after knowing the circumstances too is just straight up dumbo..who isn’t honest with one partner, thinking he/she will be with them is just flabbergastingly sad..

    1. Firstly, it’s not me who’s labelling it autobiographical, both the books are heavily based on their actual story mentioned in multiple sources online.
And yes, it’s very sad that people actually fall for “cheaters” and it just frustrates me to the core 😭

Also about moving away from the abuser, I wasn’t blaming anyone, it was more of my frustration about that fact. Also if you’re strong enough to leave your family for a guy, you can atleast TRY to move away from the abuser.

      1. First of all thanks for reply author..

Secondly, I didn’t tell you re baba..i was just pointing out generally..since none of them survived post social media revolution to confirm the speculations..

Also it’s something about Red flags..ask the bull..🌚

And i get the point to try..it isn’t impossible but still people taking a wrong decision once do hesitate and instead try to justify over and over again in hope that one day everything will be fine..(p.s. i am not a psychology expert but i do read and seen many relationships via bird view to comprehend these points by my novice brain..)

        1. Yes, I understand what you’re saying 🫠

(However, there’s a subtle mention of gunaho ka devta in ret ki machhli, setting that narrative, that’s how people picked the thought)

Also, the bull comment was legit 🤣🤣

And observing people around is the best kind of learning, as far as I’ve noticed.

          1. Okay! I picked up Ret ki machali after seeing it’s an answer to Gunahon ka devta..so i started paralleling the characters all along till half but lost the question in between.. (typical 3 idiots reference)
And then the moment where guy and his tuberculosis muh boli sister scene was narrated when shobhan picked up her pregnant wife and not only still involved in the act but tried to convince her to join in..i felt like vomitting like need that kamlesh’s solution to gulp it down..Gunahon ka devta i still felt was author’s fantasy but this i couldn’t comprehend the depression so picked up Yaar Papa..but there was broken relationship..

Why in heaven, i need so much samples?! I ain’t doing research but still somehow pick up similar relationship tangent in last 4-5 books so too much learning..🌚 where is the not perfect but better equation kind man?!

            1. IKR 😭
IT WAS SO YUCKKKKKKKK!!! I rarely cry over books, like I can feel the depth but it’s very rare that I cry so bad!! And this particular scene broke me to the level I couldn’t stop crying.

And it’s not research but an observation of what not to do in my own life 🤣

  2. Awwwwww then how you cope up with that? Like what you read or listened thereafter?!
I think i have to go back to psychological thriller to stimulate two left brain cells instead of my heart, who need to get back to pumping blood and not bleed with rage..better deal

To be well versed with instruction manuals without an appliance to apply that on, is it worth Sonal anyway?!👀

(P.s. i also observed this website don’t give reply option post 4 thoughts..aptly 4 logon ko jo kehna tha keh diya ab separately kaho baaki..🗿)

    1. I started Wars and Wings series (that was quite light hearted)
And well, it’s rare to find the IT person of your life, so it’s better to read the manual till you meet THE appliance 🙂‍↕️

      (Mended that 🙂😭🤣)

      1. Okay! i will check that out sooner..now toh have to complete both broken relation ones first..

Great Quote Sonal..contender for next Merchandise i guess..
THE se toh Only murders in the building yaad aa gaya..

Thenkks Author🗿🗿 do you have any tricks for mending insta algo as well?!
