Not You Please by Anuradha Dev – Book Review

Not You Please by Anuradha Dev: Book Review – To say high-school romance has a different hit for everyone, maybe because most of us experience so many things during that time or maybe because some of us want to experience it but do not have the courage to do so. When I came across reading romances, it started with college love stories and progressed to other sections. While I love all those aspects of the genre, this book has been an utter love to me.

The book, Not You Please, is about two classmates, one of whom is an extrovert playboy, while the girl is an introverted bookworm. What makes the characters different from the typically usual ones is that they know how to take a stand for themselves, and I am not just talking about the main leads only, but the side characters as well. Further, it might or might not be a spoiler – read, only if you prefer a small overview of the book.

Not you please

Mishti, the strong-headed introvert, happens to have an underlying crush on our oh-so-popular basketball god, which, of course, dissolves with time because of our boy’s oh-so stupidity. Sometimes I feel like hitting him on the head, but then, Mishti is too good at holding grudges for the smallest things for the longest time, might I say ‘just like me’, LOL!

Vikram, a single brother of four sisters, likes to believe that nobody loves him and that his only reason for being born is being the man of the house after his father. Too typically Indian thought, but that’s what he thinks, which results in him thinking of himself as a heartless idiot. But but but, things always have their way, and when he notices Mishti, his life takes a turn! Enough of spoilers. I would really love to keep the rest a surprise and can assure you that you will love it to the core.

One of the main reasons I loved it the most was how I could relate to Mishti.

Introvert? Check!

No social life? Check!

Only online friend? Check!

No boyfriend? Check!

Crush? Check!

And that was enough to hook me to the book when I started. :p

Another thing I loved was how the characters were all fictional but sounded so realistic. They had me entirely giddy through the read like you can relate to most of them for different reasons. Vikram for how easily he can express himself, Mishti for how she can survive being an introvert but want to take risks for the first time (the nervous jitters had me so bad though, it was exactly how I feel while going for something new, something unexpected), Saahil for his messy vibes, Nancy for her chirpiness, and well Megha, not to forget, for her being the constant support to Mishti.
