It Ends with Us + It Starts with Us by Colleen Hoover– The most hyped books on the internet, It Ends with Us and It Starts with Us, is written by Colleen Hoover, the best-selling author from New York. Honestly, it is hard for me to drop reviews separately on both of these books. The emotions in this story are so raw, it has the power to make your heart bleed and cure it at the same time.
While It Ends with Us is a book about sweet love and domestic abuse Lily faces. The story mainly revolves around Lily, the protagonist; Ryle, her boyfriend and husband, an established neurosurgeon; and Atlas, Lily’s childhood love and the person who she could trust with her life. These books, to be very honest, have made me cry so badly. Having a sensitive heart, when I was imagining all that happened with Lily, it just shattered my heart and truly it took me so much time to just finish the book, I seriously could not take the heartbreak.
Without giving spoilers, it is hard to tell you how the story is, but one thing is for sure, if you are reading this series, you need to grab some tissues. Lily, even is a strong character, but it is hard to see the choices she makes when she stayed all those times. I sometimes wanted to shake her up and tell her to quit, but then, had to remind myself it is fictional and not real. At the same moment, there were talks that the real life of the author and her mother inspired these scenes were enough to make me weep again.
So, coming back to the book, this book covers the childhood love story of Lily and Atlas, their fall apart, lily’s new life, her going through domestic violence, and whatnot. The best of the book was the letters like they were not just letters but a piece of Lily’s heart and what I loved about those letters the most was the pureness they held. And it’s not just about the letters by Lily, but the ones Atlas wrote as well.
In It Starts with Us, we get to see Atlas’s POV and his life story from his childhood. The torture he went through makes you cry buckets and the way he coped with that is just… I don’t know how to word it out, but it just breaks your heart. One of my favorite moments was when he tells Lily how she was his hope to live. Even after years, the love they both held for each other is just commendable.
Another cute and important character in the book is Emma aka Emmerson, Lily’s daughter. In a way, the book It Starts with Us equally revolves around Lily and Emma. The best part is the bond Ryle and Atlas have with her and the way they were ready to mend their decisions, considering her. It is difficult to sum these things up without letting out the spoilers, so it’s better if you give it a read yourself LOL.
While I am telling you about the characters, how can I miss my favorite people, Allyssa and Marshal, the candy couple in the story? Even though Allyssa is Ryle’s sister and Marshal is Ryle’s best friend, I so love how they both stood with Lily and opposed Ryle at every mistake he’s made. Both their characters are so beautifully portrayed and the way he always stood by their rights is just commendable.
Throughout both these books, you get to learn so much about life and relationships that it’s hard to not feel each and every word inked on those pages. It’s been days since I read it but I can still feel every word right in my bones. There are quite a handful of scenes of Ryle and Lily that are enough to bring the trauma back.
If you still haven’t read the book yet, listen to me, you are missing out on a big-time masterpiece. But only read ‘’It Ends with Us’’ if you are fine with domestic violence scenes, rape attempts, and related sequences. Although while reading this one, I felt my heart shatter, but ‘It Starts with Us’ is the best cure. Honestly, it’s exactly what I expected and throughout this one, I was so satisfied with the way it was progressing.
