Cords of Concealed Hearts by Shipra Sharma – Book Review

Honestly, it would be the first time I have finished an ARC this fast, like I didn’t even take 24 hours to finish the book along with my office. It was just so gripping, I couldn’t put it down. At some points, I felt like I had a Wattpad book printed in my hands.

To talk about the story, if you have checked the blurb of the book, you know this book is about a girl named Ira who is very dearly loved by her grandparents and is very innocently living her happy perfect life. But things take a huge turn after her naanu dies and she is left alone in this world. Whenever she talked about her naanu, I was taken back to my maternal grandparents, it just felt too real, too connected. I just miss them so much.

After his death, her maasi took her in to fulfill her ulterior motives and I can say this without a doubt, she’s a total Bi**h! Not taking my words back any day!

Adhijay, I don’t know what should I say about him! I mean, this would be the first time I am saying this, but this is how the characters are supposed to be. I mean they embrace their imperfections, they are ashamed of that, no so much proud of their past but still embrace their true self. Like for half the book, it was hard for me to say that yes I like him, or this is the reason why I like him. However, as the book progresses and you get to know him, you will find yourself inclining towards him a little more than in the last chapter. But but but, to me, it’ll always be Ira I’ll always be more inclined to. She just feels so real, so special, mainly, so relatable. It’s like I am seeing somehow myself but with a lot simpler life, Lol!

There’s this another thing that has been stuck in my mind, friendship. According to Ira, friendship is the most beautiful relation in a person’s life. But she herself ends up distancing herself from Smriti because she was easier to blame for naanu’s death after herself. That’s not what best friends do, no? I mean I felt irritated at Ira for Smriti but then I understand. When we lose someone, our heart and mind want someone to blame, to let ourselves free from the guilt but she being such a great friend with everyone, that wasn’t what I expected from her.

At the same time, another aspect of friendship uncovers when Shivi refuses to trust Ira and trusts some rando’s words. Like this is not how friendship works. You need to trust that person, respect that person, and be faithful to them regardless of the reasons. And if you think that person did you wrong, at least hear them out for once why they did what they did. I mean, that is what friendship is to me.

But then there’s this thought that without coming across such situations, one can never value someone. Facing challenging situations helps us understand the value of certain people in our lives.

So all I can say is, this book is definitely worth reading! You won’t be disappointed! What are you waiting for? Just go grab your copies of Cords of Concealed Heart!
