Call Me Maybe by Cara Bastone – Book Review

Call Me Maybe by Cara BastoneBook Review—Are you a fan of love at first talk? Yes, not love at first sight but love at first talk! If yes, this is one of the most incredible books you are supposed to hear. TUNE IN RIGHT AWAY! Call Me Maybe by Cara Bastone is about a girl who in a way is labelled as the one who quits when things go hard (I can truly relate to her on this) and an introverted customer care person who was supposed to help her with her website. And can I just scream at how big of a green flag this book is? LIKE DAMN, IT WAS TOTALLY REFRESHING!!!

This was the first time I heard something by Cara and to say I loved it would be an understatement. Her writing style is so simplified and intriguing and the story is entirely fluent. I literally was frustrated when I had to stop the book to finish my work (which was alas, equally important).

Back to the story, Call Me Maybe revolves around Vera, not a quitter but a *trier* as Cal calls her, who loves to try new things to decide if she is capable of doing it and if the particular work interests her. During the course of the story, the male lead, Fredrik Cal (Kal) Kantola, helps her solve errors with her website, which can help build and boost her business, Date-In-A-Box.

When they first had their call, they never expected to fall for her; however, seeing Kal so nervous, just made me excited about what will happen next XD! Their texts and calls kept getting more intense with every second, and at some point, it made me nervous about my own existence. What excited me more was the anticipation that Cal be able to solve the website error. Because I myself work on websites, it just felt too personal on different levels and I loved the anticipations and couldn’t just ignore whatever he said about the issue, LOL!

Moreover, the book isn’t just about the website errors but about the parts of their lives they discussed with each other, regardless of whether it concerned the embarrassing photographs in Vera’s brother’s home or the effect Cal’s dysfunctional family had on him. His social anxiety was to the level that her family did not appreciate because they wanted to see her settled soon. And then there’s this Fred story I am not gonna tell you about. It’s better if you hear it. I mean, why spoil it for you when you can have the best time hearing it? <3

All in all, it was too real to call it fictional, especially when I spend most of my time talking to people online when most of my friends live miles away from me. I could feel the vibe of having your favourite people living far away from you. So yeah, it was a complete package for me.

If you haven’t heard Call Me Maybe by Cara Bastone yet, tune it right away and if you have already heard it, HEAR AGAIN! You won’t find such green flags every day!

Also, how can I forget special kudos to the narrators – Luci Christian and Neil Hellegers? They just made this book sound so real. It was as if I was hearing a true story with the most realistic expressions, may it be the laugh, agony, anger, irritation or the incredible hyena voices XD. I utterly loved them so much! <3
